la_jolla_beachThe widely popular downtown La Jolla is well known for its art galleries, designer boutiques, and fantastic restaurants.  La Jolla Shores is one of San Diego’s most popular beaches and is popular for surfing, kayaking, scuba diving, and snorkeling. La Jolla Shores extends from Scripps Pier south to the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club.

La Jolla Shores is equipped with several bonfire pits on a first come first serve basis, and Kellogg Park, great for ocean front picnicking.  Visit our La Jolla Shores page for more information about this beautiful family beach.

La Jolla borders Pacific Beach to the south, and extends north to the Torrey Pines State Reserve, just south of Del Mar.  Within La Jolla, there are many other neighborhoods that each have their own appeal and character. The La Jolla Farms area overlooks La Jolla Shores on the north side and is well known for its magnificent estates.

dr_suesLa Jolla was oringally an unknown beach town that has its roots as an artist and literary colony.  Gustav Shultz, Frank Buam, and Dr. Seuss are just a few of the famous figures to have been credited with discovering this beautiful city.  This unique community remains exclusive with its many legacy families and its unique geographical area.  La Jolla is not right off the freeway, and therefore not that easy to get to.

Bird Rock, the southernmost neighborhood of La Jolla, takes on a more casual, modest feel with many families and local unique shops on nearby La Jolla Blvd.  Bird Rock is also adjacent to Pacific Beach, a young, vibrant and often loud beach town.  The Windansea area is a world famous surf spot.  This beach is popular with locals for its seclusion and popular with seasoned surfers for its typically large waves.

This makes La Jolla even more intriguing to some, and today La Jolla is still a very wealthy, affluent community. Visit our La Jolla History page for more information.

mt_soledadLa Jolla’s Mt. Soledad is well-known for the Cross. A War Memorial that is located at the summit of Mt. Soledad.  The Cross was originally put up as the centerpiece of the Korean War Memorial, but now there are plaques from many different conflicts.  The prescience of the Cross, was largely disputed by an atheist in the 1990s.  Today, Mt. Soledad is popular for watching the sunset, viewing the war memorial, and gazing at San Diego’s panoramic views.

La Jolla is in fact a part of the City of San Diego, but it often feels like its own entity.   La Jolla has several community groups that work together to preserve this treasure, and we hope you get to experience the beauty with us on one or La Jolla Freefall Bike Tour.  The most compelling part of La Jolla is its ocean front property.  Join us for a fantastic leisure ride along the coastal sights like Windansea Beach, the Children’s Pool, La Jolla Cove, and Sunny Jim’s Cave via the historical Cave Store to actively explore La Jolla on bicycle.

La Jolla is also home to the Birch Aquarium, Black’s Beach, Downtown La Jolla, and the La Jolla tide pools, which are great places to Even just a stroll along the beach can be a great activity, especially at sunset.

Downtown La Jolla is noted for its jewelry shops, upscale restaurants, hotels, and art exhibits.  Prospect Steet is notable for its’ historical hotels, and upscale restaurants.  The street is best compared to a small “Rodeo Drive” but next to the Ocean.
