Petco Park and the San Diego Padres

Root, Root, Root for the Padres!

san diego padres logoPetco Park has 42, 445 seats and became home to the San Diego Padres in 2004.  Petco Park has the feel of a 1950s baseball field in the heart of an urban downtown, with San Diego’s picturesque skyline, but with the spectacular view of San Diego Bay and the Coronado Bridge.  Petco Park combines the timeless traditions of baseball with the innovative amenities of today, making this ballpark comfortable but traditional.

petco park arial photoPetco Park also has a grassy area along the outfield fence, known as the Park at the Park, for baseball fans to picnic or just lounge comfortably on the outskirts of the Park.  The historic Western Metal Supply Company building has been incorporated into Petco Park; the left field foul pole is attached to the southeast corner of the building.  The first floor of this fifty year old building also houses the Padres Team Store.  The fourth floor of the building provides dining along the terrace with field views.  There is also additional bleacher seating and a standing room on the 80 foot roof of the Western Metal Supply building.

The seating area within the ballpark was designed to be luxurious and comfortable, as all 42,000 seats have cup holders and extended leg room.  The seats down the foul lines are angled toward the infield for better views of the game.  The top two levels of the ballpark are built on cantilevers for a more complete view.  To create a feeling of intimacy and involvement, the field level is only 34 feet above the field.

Transporation to the Petco Park is easy.  Drive to Petco, and park in downtown and take a pedicab to the entrance to the ballpark.  Or take the trolley into downtown and walk over to the field.
