Whale Watching: A Seasonal Kayak tour

Our guided kayak tours are available all year round. Go whale watching in San Diego on one of our most popular winter adventures. Whale watching tours are avaliable between October and March.

The coastal waters of La Jolla Shores offer a great opportunity to see the migration of grey whales; however, San Diego whale watching is a seasonal activity available during winter months only. To catch these grey whales migrating, our kayak tour will go a mile or more off of shore to seek out these amazing creatures.  The grey whales can usually be seen right on the edge of the Ecological Reserve near the kelp beds.

The migration path of the whales are along the west coastline and they pass nearby La Jolla Shores and outer areas of La Jolla Cove. In addition, the whale watching tour will also paddle to the seacliffs, the La Jolla caves, the kelp beds and Underwater Ecological Reserve. Kayakers may also see sea lions and harbor seals while taking a kayak tour to go whale watching.

Although we do not guarantee whale sightings on whale watching tours, we do offer a complimentary ticket voucher for any unsuccessful experiences.

Mild weather in San Diego makes kayaking in La Jolla a year round activity. Reservations are necessary for all kayak tours. Water temperatures are usually between 57-62 degrees during these winter months, so wetsuits are usually necessary. Wetsuit rentals are available through us upon arrival. Wetsuits are $5 additional rental fee and highly recommended for your own comfort and safety during the winter months!
